Greetings from Base Camp

Today I have been taking part in a holy ritual, which is being done before every climb towards the top. It’s a ceremony held by a selected Sherpa, all to give us the blessing and safety we need to reach the top. It begins with the creation of something called a “stupa”. A Buddhist religious monument, decorated with symbolic flags and banners.
The next step is to sacrifice some of you valuables. I gave up a tube of Piz Buin sunscreen, “Minedykker” t-shirt, medical equipment, money, chocolate and a pack of condoms…..
Throughout the hour long ceremony, the head Sherpa yelled out something sounding like “Oma…Oma…Oma…Oma,” while handing out special created ribbons made by one of the most honored monks in Kathmandu.
Before ending the day, I made a quick trek to about 5600 MSL

Bye for now…
